Sunlight falling across a surface is never flat. It grazes, it catches texture, and it changes what a material looks like. Stone, brick, timber and render all come alive under light arriving at an angle and go dead under light that hits them square on. The same is true overhead, where an opening reads as depth rather than as a fitting. Nature does this constantly, and a room that does it too is one people remember.
