The bathroom is the first room we use each morning and the last one we use at night. It is also the room where we look most closely at ourselves, and in most homes it is the one with no window at all.
Small rooms respond to overhead light better than large ones. Light from above reaches all four walls and draws the eye upward, so a compact bathroom reads as considerably more open than it measures. It also changes how we look in a mirror, because daylight shows skin and colour accurately where a yellow or blue tinted fitting does not. Morning light helps start the day properly. Warm evening light turns the same room into somewhere to unwind rather than somewhere to hurry.
